The Georgetwon U researchers found in a study on rats that whole wheat grains decreased risk of cancer in babies by improving DNA damage repair mechanisms. A defatted flax flour increased cancer risk and oat grain had no effect at all. Whole wheat has also been associated with reduced risk of metabolic syndrom, diabetes and colorectal cancer. I would also strongly recommend eating whole brown grains when pregnant to prevent the potential, devastating effects of gestation diabetes caused by inactivity and the consumption of "white" carbohydrates (sugar, white flour, white pasta, white rice etc...).
